Environment Groups Management: How to Assign, Edit & Remove

Objective

This guide explains how to use Environment Groups Management: How to Assign, Edit & Remove on Ruk-Com Cloud PaaS, with ordered procedures and practical verification points.

Before you begin

• Sign in with an account permitted to manage the relevant environment.
• Confirm the target environment, region and resources before saving changes.
• Create a backup or rollback plan before changing a production system.

The instructions below contain information about the basic management options available to Ruk-Com Cloud Platform for working with environment groups. It explains in-depth information on how to:

• Assign Group to Environment- set env group
  
• Add Subgroup- Add subgroups
  
• Edit Group- Edit group
  
• Remove Group- Delete group

Assign Group to Environment

While the project is running, you may need to create additional related environments and integrate them with the rest of the existing group of components in the application.

To specify labels for an environment, hover over the tag column and click the button that appears:

• Add to Env Group- In cases where no tags have been assigned to the environment
  
  
  
  
• Edit Env Groups- If some tabs are already attached
  
  

In the dialog box that opens You can define groups for this environment (by automatically selecting through the available list to retrieve existing data), creating and defining new tags. (Just type the name you want and press Enter)

Clicking Apply will display all tags within the tag column for the relevant environment.

Tips:
-You can assign as many tags to an environment as you want.

-Use slash separatorslashto define or create nested groups via input fields.

Additionally, if a process creates an environment from within the environment group (for example, when related tags are displayed within the Env group panel at the top), all newly created Entities are automatically merged into this group.

Add Subgroups

Subgroups help break up a top-level environment group into smaller parts (for example, to separate the computations and data of a single project or separate development steps).

Such stacking can include unlimited levels. This can be set in the following ways:

• betweenGroup creationNew by typing the full path in the Name field (using a slash as separator) or selecting the parent group in the appropriate list. (so that this new group will be included in the selected parent group)
  
  
  
  
• while within the group You can expand the list for that group and clickAdd Child
  
  
  
  
• Management frameEnvironment Groups(Open byEnv Groups > Manage) and select the desired group and click the button.Add > Add Child
  
  

In the latter two cases, the Add Group frame opens in which the appropriate group is automatically set to parent.

Edit Group

You can modify the environment groups in your account at any time to meet your needs. The appropriate option can be reached in one of the following ways:

• Click the dropdown to expand the list for the desired group and clickEdit
  
  
  
  
• Management frameEnvironment Groups(Open byEnv Groups > Manage) and select the desired group and click the button.Edit
  
  
  

Both types of editing will have a window appear as shown:

Here you can adjust all the information you initially specified during the creation of this group, such as:

• Name- Type a new name for your group. (Colors can be changed as well)
  
• Parent Group- Set or change the overlay for the current group.
  
• Environments- Add or remove environments from groups
  
  

ClickApplyto save settings

Note:When performing edits through the Environment Group Management dialog box You must refresh the group list for the new settings to immediately show in this frame.

Remove Group

If you don't want a previously created group You can easily delete them from the dashboard.

Note:
Deleting a group has no effect on the included environment. (except for removing related tags) Similarly, when all environments are deleted from a group, Related tags will still be available on the dashboard for selection.

Deleting a group can be performed by one of the following:

• Select the group that you no longer want. Click the dropdown to expand the list within the top panel and clickRemove
  
  
  
  
• or go toEnv Groups > ManageSelect the unwanted group within the displayed list and click the button.Remove
  
  
  
  

Group deletion operation You will need to confirm the deletion by selectingYesthat appears in the frame

This way you can apply all necessary environment group configurations and improve segmentation right at your own dashboard.
