Objective

This guide explains how to use Cloudlet on Ruk-Com Cloud PaaS, with ordered procedures and practical verification points.

Before you begin

  • Sign in with an account permitted to manage the relevant environment.
  • Confirm the target environment, region and resources before saving changes.
  • Create a backup or rollback plan before changing a production system.

Ruk-Com Cloud Platform resource usage is measured in cloudlets, which are special units consisting ofRAM 128 MiBandCPU power 400 MHzat the same time

Due to its small size, the required capacity for each server environment can be specified precisely and guaranteed.Price according to usageSo you don't overpay for unused resources.

More:Difference between RAM consumption (with MiB=1024 KiB unit) usageDisk space and network trafficIt is measured in megabytes (1000 KB).

In the sections below we will explain each type of cloudlet used in Ruk-Com Cloud, how to use a cloudlet, and tracking your resource usage.

Types of Cloudlets

There are two types of Ruk-Com Cloud cloudlets available to configure every server environment through vertical scaling on a per node basis in the topology wizard:ReservedandDynamic

In the case if the layer consists ofmultiple nodesThese limits are configured for all nodes at once. That is, the state is equal in each instance.

Here, each entry corresponds to a specific cloudlet type:

  • Reserved Cloudlets
Cloudlets are reserved in advance and are charged regardless of actual resource usage. On the other hand, youGet automatic discountMany according to the number of cloudlets

  • Dynamic Cloudlets
They are automatically added and removed based on the resource consumption your application requires over time - i.e. they are assigned as the load increases and removed again as soon as it decreases. As a result, you pay based on your actual resource usage.

This type of cloudlet helps cope with unexpected and unplanned spikes in demand. Also, paying too much for resources that you won't need most of the time. With the Dynamic Cloudlets slider you set the container's Scaling Limit by defining the maximum number of cloudlets possible for allocation.

To achieve maximum profits, we recommend using Dynamic Cloudlets alongside Reserved Cloudlets to get the benefits of both.Vertical scalingthat your applications automatically and benefit fromDiscounttogether automatically

Calculating Cloudlet consumption

The number of cloudlets to be calculated on an hourly basis according to the following method:

  • forRAM- Maximum value (e.g. maximum RAM usage for all hours)
  • forCPU- Average of usage

Values greater than these (but not both) is considered actual use of the environment and will be charged to the account at the service provider's rates. (You can check at the sectionQuotas & Pricing)

For example:If in 1 hour the average CPU usage is 2400 MHz (6 cloudlets) and the maximum RAM usage is 1024 MiB (8 cloudlets), you will be charged for 8 cloudlets - not 14 total.

Resource consumption tracking

The current resource usage of the general environment comprising a particular layer/node can be viewed in the corresponding usage column on the dashboard.Usage:
